To new beginnings....

With the holidays coming to a close,
I look toward the New Year as a time of new beginnings.

My term is ending at
and it has been a wonderful, however short, fullfilling experience.
The design team has been so very helpful to this newcomer,
and I have learned so much about their products and techniques from everyone!

With the recent passing of my father in October,
the caring and closeness of my blogger friends has become even more apparent!

So, I say "Good-bye" to 2012
and "WELCOME 2013" and to a fresh start with new ideas and renewed creativity!

A "Charmed" New Year!

I used the absolutely gorgeous butterfly stamp from the
Sheena Douglas collection,

I spritzed some alcohol ink directly onto my white cardstock, trying to match it to a section of this paper from 7 Gypsies.
(one of my New Year's resolutions is to use up some of my old papers)
Then, I stamped the butterfly image twice onto the dry paper and
black heat embossed them.
I cut them out and added some ink to the wings to better match the color tone and add some dimension.  I always pop up my images for movement.
The key charm was used as the "body" on one of the butterflies, and an extra little clockface tied onto the ribbon.

As I say so long to one life experience,
I am excited to see what this coming year holds.

As always, I'll continue to bring you goodness and yumminess from
and
and plan to expand in yet more directions with my craft.

Have a Happy, Happy New Year!

If not for....

this adorable little image, I would never have made it onto the wonderful
Design Team at

We were asked to pick one of our favorite projects,
and this one immediately came to mind.

This 6 x 6 card was made using
one of the many sweet images in the "Paintbox Poppets" collection!

It is also one of my very favorite projects from the past year!

If you would like to read the details of how I created this card,
just look here!

I hope to eventually get back to creating as I was at that time.
I have been in a bit of a funk since my father's funeral in November and have been addressing some of my own medical issues.
But with the New Year comes new beginnings!

I love all of the Paintbox Poppets and look forward to taking marker to paper and designing more of these darlings!
If you would like to win your own "In Trouble Again" stamp, simply leave a comment on this blog post and one lucky winner will receive it!

Visit the Crafter's Companion blog to see more projects and go to all of the team's blogs to enter and win more stamps!

Thanks, again, for visiting my blog,
and a Very Merry Christmas to all of you!

Easy Gift Wrap Idea with Crafter's Companion!

So many times I just need a simple way to present a small gift without
all the hoopla of papers and ribbons!

I whipped up this easy, folded packaging for my holiday gifts such as gloves, scarves, and (in this case) a knitted hat that all the kids are wearing!

This little image of Humphrey trudging through the snow is so cute!
Start with an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of your preferred white coloring cardstock and cut
to 6 x 11. Score your paper at 4", 4 1/2" 8 1/2 and 9".  Stamp your image in the center of your center 4" space. (Sorry, it was only AFTER I finished my project did I think to photograph it!)

Color your image and don't forget to add shadowing to it and the sentiment to look as though the words are shadowed in the snow!

Simply adorn with some pretty patterned paper at top and bottom and you have packaging that even the retail stores would envy!

Hope this makes some of your gift wrapping faster!
You could easily color one image and then make copies to put together dozens of matching gifts! (Think school/teacher projects!)

Have a great week!

Winter Friends!

What little girl didn't grow up dreaming of getting a pony for Christmas!

When I saw this new stamp from the
Crafter's Companion,
I immediately recalled those early days and thinking I could actually have a horse in the suburbs!

"Champion"

Wrapped up like a package, and sporting my favorite boot charms, this little
Christmas card would have been the perfect one for a little horse-lover like me!

My dreams and wishes are more realistic now, but I did finally get my horses and, while it lasted, enjoyed having them every day!

I hope all of your dreams and wishes come true for the holiday season!

In the Christmas "Spirit"....

Normally NOT a wine drinker, or any kind of drinker for that matter,
I recently took a trip to Iowa to visit an old high school friend. While there, I discovered this amazing Apple/Cinnamon dessert wine that I could sip all evening!
It tastes very much like apple cider with a bit
of spice and a punch.
So, I suppose now I can call myself a "wine-drinker"!

(Unfortunately, the Iowa winery does not ship to Arizona, so it has caused some difficulty in ever getting more!  She and I are working on it!)

This season there are so many choices of gifts out there, and just as many ways to wrap them.

I used the very beautiful stamp set from
"A Little Bit Scenic" line from Sheena Douglas,
"Provence".

Here's a hanging gift tag I made for that special bottle that should I find and want to "present" as a present, I am ready....

Yes, I know, ...this bottle isn't quite full.
I may have used a teeny weeny bit in a recipe the other day...hmmm...I think...

Since I am new to the Wine Scene, I have no idea what true colors wine comes in, but I know red is in there somewhere!   My favorite, the Eve's Apple from the Santa Maria Winery in Iowa, has little color, so this card would not have popped like it did had I used it as a sample!

Merry Christmas and Green pattern papers are DCWV, wood grain pattern paper is
My Mind's Eye, and the sentiments were borrowed from my old stamp stash.

This tag has also been entered into the RED challenge at
OOzak Blog.

You are my true North....

Ever feel this way about someone?
Someone who can make you feel better when all else fails?

I love this stamp by
"A Map"
available at Crafter's Companion!

I heat embossed the stamped map image with Stampendous' Bark embossing powder.

The stick pin I hand made and inserted it through the center hole where I had placed a red metal eyelet. It really adds some pop and texture, along with the wrapped twine!

Simple, fast, but elegant at the same time.

Crafter's Companion goes Hedgehog WILD!

The SWALK release this month "Pawfect Pals",
at Crafter's Companion is all about PETS!

I have always loved animals and owned quite a collection over the years.
My household is pretty tame at this time, with only 2 dogs, 2 parrots, and a fish tank.

I feel in love with this little image of the little "Prickly" guy and his freinds.

Colored with Spectrum Noir markers

Some gingham ribbon, and weathered wood pattern paper make this just country enough to fit into the hedgehog mode.

Check out all of the new pet-friendly images at Crafter's Companion!
They're adorable!

Hoppin' off to school!

I have been trying to be in several places at one time this past few weeks,
and my scrap time has been greatly reduced.
(Translates to "I have little time to color".)

So, this week I took out my Crafter's Companion,

How cool are these!

The Decoupage sheets contain several versions of the same image, with various sections seperate from the image so that you can fussy-cut and layer making an adorable 3-D project!

My bad for not having discovered these sooner!

Because so very often I need a card for an unplanned occasion, I leave them blank or don't add a sentiment on the front at all!

I can think of many ideas for this little card.

The details literally just POP off the card!

I have been a longtime Beatrix Potter fan, and these character stamps, CD's, and pre-colored images are perfect!

The green and yellow are so bright and sunny.
And I am so GREEN with envy that Anthony and Burt are getting rain... lol!

but sneaks and releases of the newest Crafter's Companion stamps and products!

I am so thrilled to be on this team
that I celebrated by coloring this adorable "Humphrey" image

Today's the LAST DAY to get your entry posted!

Isn't she cute?
The image is
"Swinging By"
and can be found here at the CC store!

Lots of fussy cutting on this little sweetie!
After coloring and cutting, I attached her "rope" and
hung her from the window opening.
The paper used for background is
DCWV, "Wild Splendor" stack
and the punched leaves are made with the tiny Recollections leaf punch.

Quick, join the fun and maybe you could win

Mulberry Woods Everyday New Release!

At Crafter's Companion, we are celebrating another fantastic stamp set from

This little cutie-pie is from the "Everyday" collection.
There you'll find six new sets, each one so adorable that you'll want them all!

I will be the first to admit that when I see animal fur on an image, I choke!
And because I haven't mastered the art of coloring it with my markers (not yet, anyway) I am quick at grabbing a piece of fabric and dabbing the bear with some colorless alcohol. This gives the look of fur without any of that unpleasant stress and nausea that accompanies my regular "fur" sessions! LOL!
I used the same method to make "grass". I simply dabbed a stripe of solid green ink across my horizon, and using a cordoroy fabric, lifted the color in a vertical pattern!

The next obvious question is, "How did you make the tree?"
This was an idea I BORROWED from my friend, Jennifer Dove.
I ran the Co-ordinations cardstock through my embosser using a woodgrain folder and sanded. Then, I cut out the knot hole and attached the tree to the card front with
black paper rolled inside. (Your tree will stick out about an inch)
I attached some moss to the bottom, along with some flowers and punched butterflies, and my tree was done. Well, almost.  You certainly can't sit under a tree with no leaves and branches, so I dug through my scraps of silk flower pieces, and found the ivy.

From a slight side view, you can see how this is a 6 x 6 step card with the tree attached to the highest side.  I will probably not be mailing this, but I thought it would look sweet along with a nice gift of a gardening/flower magazine for a friend who needs a break.

Hope you enjoyed my sharing these ideas with you!

See you next week!

A Bevy of Butterflies!

In recognition of
Breast Cancer Awareness Month,
I made this layout using the prettiest butterfly stamp ever
and one of my favorite quotes!

has many different styles of stamp images...
funny, cute, sincere, and insightful.
I loved these butterflies from
(part of the Sheena Douglas collection)
the very first time I saw them!

The proverb was taken from the internet.
I think it speaks volumes when it comes to the brave women who
face breast cancer every day!
"There, but by the grace of God, ..."

A side view showing the dimension I added to each butterfly.

I colored them with my alcohol markers.
Then, with the antenna and the Glossy Accents added, they really came to life!

This is definitely one of my all-time favorite layouts.
No personal photos, or even experiences journaled, but it simply reflects how I feel about the trials that one must be faced with when battling a horrible disease.

If you look closely, you will also see how I implemented a new embossing folder from Die'Sire!  More of that at Crafter's Companion later this week!
I made the background layer more vintage by cutting and distressing the edges and inking it to appear more aged.

Paper:  Graphic45, "Botanicabella"
Cardstock:  Bazzill

Thanks for sharing in this special project with me
and Crafter's Companion!

Introducing Sky!

Today my card showcases an adorable little Toread nymph by the name of

"Sky".

She is cute, precocious, and very worldly.

I have visions of her scurrying around from here to there, crossing oceans and forests, without anyone being the wiser...

They may be "mythological" , but just like the unicorns and elves, fairies and gnomes,
do we really, truly believe they never existed?
LOL!  I 'd like to think they did, and still do, in some far away corner of the world.

I may only get as far as across this country, but this card will deliver a message of exploration and excitement... well, for me , anyway.

Each and every Toread has its' own personality depending on how each person colors it!  Go crazy with your markers and see what you can do!

I had a blast using:

7 Gypsies papers
Alcohol-Based Markers
Stickles
Recollections Brads
Leaf Charm, Blue Moon Beads
Cotton cloth, Dollar Store

Bye!!

Mischievous little Imp!

HOORAY!

This is a very big day for me!
Remember I said I had a big announcement to make in October! Well, here it is!
Today is my first Design Team post for the
blog!

I am so excited to be a part of their team!
It was my decision this year to make it onto a design team or two that truly inspires me and who carries products that I dearly love!
Well, here I am!
Between the lusciousness of the pattern papers at DCWV,
and the wide range of wonderful images and scrapping products from
Crafter's Companion, I'd say my creative life is complete!

If this release hasn't already captured your heart, it will soon!
These adorable nymphs make any card or project so much fun!

Because I have a grandson, my immediate decision was to use the
only little boy released so far in the collection.
He is sneaky, sweet, and adorable - just like my grandson.
I never know whether to hug him or put him in time out!
Both are usually called for! ;)

I can't wait to send this out!
It's bound to get a response from someone I haven't heard from in a while!

Getting out my markers and coloring this was so much fun!
And because he IS appears a wee bit precocious, I felt the red hair was appropriate
(hey, we've all known a few strong-willed red-headed children!)

I certainly hope you have had fun going through all of the projects this week!
I know I can't wait to grab my markers and start coloring those sweet little nymphs!

And my fun at Crafter's Companion has just begun!

My Crafter's Companion GDT Spot!

Having recovering from the excitement of being asked to be the
Guest Designer in September for the
I got to work putting together this tutorial!

First, let me say, I had the most adorable stamp to work with...

It's called "Winter Pastime"
and is part of the

HEAT AND DRY EMBOSSING
---------------------------------------------------------
Being a newbie at tutorials, I will try and walk you through the process for this card.
It's not difficult, and anyone can use these embossing techniques on their own projects!

First, since I LOVE to make my cards dimensional, I always stamp two copies of my image because I KNOW I'm gong to want to POP-UP a portion of the image.
(And make sure you use your GOOD Copics-compatable paper. You'll be seeing parts of both images on your finished project!)

Next, look at your image and take a moment to visualize how you will want to crop for your card. Sounds like a small thing, but you'll be glad you did once you start embossing and cutting. Also, I ALWAYS first chose my papers for color matching!
For this card, I used My Mind's Eye, "Lost and Found Christmas".

I chose to die-cut an image shape from my Spellbinders, in this case, Lables Eight.

That being done, take the copy you are NOT using as your final project
and color the portions you will be "popping up".  These you will want to color as carefully and detailed as you can. I do not even pretend to be a skilled Copics instructor. For that, you need to look at Jennifer Dove's blog...lol!
But, I do well enough that my friends and family like my cards.

I decided later to add more brown to the dog because I felt he looked too "spotty". You can always add more color, harder to take away or lighten.
(Obviously, another case for Jennifer!)
Next, comes the fun part... or for me, where it gets scary. Cutting out the individual parts of the image! I have some carpal tunnel issues, so fussy cutting some of the tiny details are difficult, to say the least.  I have decapitated and disfigured many an image.  Just sayin'...

See, I told you early in this tutorial that anyone can do this.
Are yo believing me now?
Another little tip is to outline your cut pieces with marker that's the same color as the edge you're coloring, or some folks just edge it all in black or brown.
This will eliminate those irritating raw, white edges you would see after
popping your pieces onto your project!

The next step is easier, as it involves coloring the portions that will be covered up by your popped-up pieces.  Keep in mind, you'll only see the edges.  I may be lazy, or just always in a rush, but I color it only as well as need be. I always use the darkest color of that part, and I only color as far INTO the image as needed.  If you are a perfectionist, you will probably want to color the entire image, including adding shading and highlights. Whatever...life's too short...

Now, back to serious coloring...
The snowman will not be popped and she needs to look extra nice, so add the shadowing and color to her hat and broom.  I also colored her scarf.  Maybe that shows up in the next photo.  (Told you I was new at this!)

Oops, no, not yet!  LOL!
But this DOES show how if you want to texture or alter your image, this is the time to do so.   Also, all of the shadowing has been added to the whole image.
Once you add the popped-up elements, it will be extremely difficult to go back and do that.
Same with the cut-out pieces. I added a little thread bow to the dog. And that's when I chose to add more brown and blend better.  He looked rather like a hyena at this stage.

Take your project image and cut to shape or size.  Your next big decision is to choose the embossed design you wish to apply to your project.
I love the Cuttlebug, Swiss Dots when I want to replicate snow!

Again, it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to add coloring or shading once you've done this.  So, double check that all is just as you like before dry embossing.

Ooooh, my favorite part is rubbing the Versamark over the entire surface!  I like the Champagne Shimmer, but have my doubts as to whether the clear would have kept my "snow" looking a bit cleaner. Done now... hehe!

Once you've done this, sprinkled clear embossing powder over all, and heat to set with your heat gun, you will notice the colors and the raised areas popping up and becoming a lot more vibrant and obvious!
I LOVE this look!
It will also make your image curl a bit. Set aside and allow to cool.

Now, what I did, and many of you may want to include on your projects, is added SPARKLE!
I added Stampendous white embossing powder and Shaved Ice to parts of the snow banks, and melted it by using the "Fran'tage" technique.  If you're not familiar with this, it is done by sprinkling your powder and other elements on the top side of your card, and then heating from the underside.  Keep in mind, your project has been completely embossed and melted previously. It will get VERY hot very fast.
(If I were wanting to keep this card vintage, I would have skipped this step altogether)

What's left to add are your popped-up pieces!
I just use regular foam pop-dots, but with the surface now being slick,
I add a dab of good adhesive just to make sure.
You certainly don't want your card falling apart in the mail!

The only other elements I added to the image were the pom-pom for the child's hat, and a teeny-tiny black pearl for the snowman's nose.
Ta-da! See?  Easy peasy!

From here, it's all yours!
Mat, stack, and embellish away!
I like to add a surprising element to my cards, like the little broom.

Dimension and that adorable image from Crafter's Companion makes this card special!

Thanks for hanging in there with me!

MFT November Sketch Challenge!

This week at MFT ,  the sketch challenge #462 is  a fairly simple one!.   Here's my take on a much needed Get Well card for my ...
