Times flies...

and 40 years can go by very quickly!

My 40th High School Reunion is this year
and you have no idea how hard that is to admit to!

But with the reunion, comes all of the travel plans and Facebook reuniting all of us.  There were over 900 folks in my graduating class, so you can imagine how difficult it was to keep track of everyone.

I recently had the chance to get together here in Phoenix with one of by very BEST friends who
I hadn't seen since high school!
I can't wait until the whole group gets together in June!
Watch out, Granite City, Illinois,
Class of 1973!

We were immediately transported back to when we were 17, and just as silly!
We decided to do our Tim Conway, "Dorf" impersonations and spent the weekend reliving
 all our long-ago goofy moments!
Yea, it's still funny...

The DCWV paper stack, "Sweet Blossom", matched the print in my friend's blouse perfectly!
And those nice little sparkle letters? Those I dug out from an old
"Once Upon A Time" chipboard box!

Remember, always cherish your friends!

On Cloud 9!

Upon hearing the news that her second daughter is now expecting,
it was clear to see that one of my very good friends is on
Cloud 9!

She has TWO new grandbabies to greet soon!
So exciting!

The gorgeous papers are from the new
DCWV stack,
"Baby Girl"

I love the adorable pastel hot-air balloons, plaids, chevrons, etc!
This stack has so many sweet baby patterns.
(PS...there's a Baby Boy stack, too!)

It's not easy to see in the photo, but the foam "9" is pink and sparkly thanks to
a new "Glitter Dust" from ThermoWeb!  Pretty!

A peek at some new papers!

If you're looking for the perfect stack for Spring,
look no further!

DCWV
has released "My Sunshine" and you are going to love it!

Polka dots, chevrons, stripes, and even bingo cards!
It was love at first sight for me!

I spotted this clever card layout recently, and HAD to replicate it!
Rather than CUTTING 3 strips of paper for the curtain,
I accordian folded it to give it more depth.

"My Sunshine" stack is now available at JoAnn's!

(Sentiment: Papertrey Ink, "Up, Up and Away" Set)

Thanks for letting me share today!

Sorry for my absence!

First, my apology for this being a very long post.

I feel I need to explain to anyone who typically checks my blog on occasion as to why I have been MIA for the last month, or more...

I went through a horrendous eight week experience that I feel anyone out there on prescription drugs needs to know about.

I have been dealing with several diagnosis' over the last 25+ years.
First, it was Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, then Connective Tissue Disorder, with that followed by Atypical Lupus.
When later tests failed to show a continued elevation in my ANA and RA's,
various doctors began refering to my symptoms as "fibromyalgia". Now, I know there are many folks out there who are also falling in to this category and I struggle with it everyday wondering if there isn't more to all of these symptoms than most physicians care to look closely at.

That being said, I was prescribed Lyrica and took it for over 8 months.
My nerve-pain symptoms did indeed improve, but I also experienced some unfortunate side-effects.
And I know that every drug carries with it the potential for some sort of ill-effects.
But for me, without going into the details, they were more than I wanted to accept as part of my daily life. Now, I don't want anyone else on this medication to get any preconceived ideas about what they themselves might experience. One thing I learned over the last 3 months is that everyone has different experiences either while ON a drug or getting OFF of it.

I went through several weeks of what I thought was a pretty comprehensive withdrawal, cutting back on my dosage slowly. Online, the manufacturer suggests "not stopping suddenly" and suggests a "week" to cut down the dose and wean off.

Unfortunatley, even the lengthened time didn't work for me.
A week following my final dose, I found myself having excruciating headaches unlike anything I'd ever felt before, "brain zaps", constant nausea, a disturbing vibration that went through my body from head to toe, HOT flushes that felt like my entire body was in flames, (not hot flashes, I've had those! LOL), when I could sleep, I would have terrible nightmares, and an overwhelming feeling that my body was actually dying.
Unable to eat, I went from 134 pounds to 118 in 8 weeks time.

I know. You're thinking I'm being dramatic.

No... If you google many drug withdrawals (not just Lyrica) and read the actual posts by individuals who have gone through these, you'll see many similiar stories.

My point is this - it's not just the POSSIBLE side effects while taking a drug that the doctors should be looking at.  It's also what happens if you choose to discontinue the drug and how to stop!
I have read many accounts of people who stopped suddenly and had terrible a withdrawal. And of people who had absolutely none. I also noted how many slowly tapered off over several months' time, and still had experiences similiar to mine.

PLEASE, IF YOU ARE TAKING OR CONSIDERING A MEDICATION,
DO YOUR HOMEWORK.  AT LEAST BE AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF EITHER NEVER BEING ABLE TO STOP TAKING IT REGARDLESS OF THE SIDE EFFECTS,
OR
FACING THE REALITY THAT IT MAY BE VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP.

I appreciate anyone's patience to have read this all the way through.
I care about all my friends, even those on the internet whom I have never personally met.
Pass this on if you know someone who may benefit from this information.

I know I wish I had gotten more information before starting Lyrica.
And if you do take it, and are not having any problems, I am so happy for you!
Today, I am getting through my pain and discomfort with minimal OTC pain medications and have started a very light exercise program. I am eating healthier and taking things slower. I feel so mentally clear and more in control of my life.

Knowledge is power.
Read everything you can get your hands on.

And, please, feel free to respond with your own thoughts on this. I would love hearing from you!

HUGS,
Jan

Standing 3D Frame

I occasionally see an idea on a blog that I am totally impressed with and
know I just have to give it a try.
Well, this folded frame was one I had to attempt.

Mine is nowhere near as gorgeous or elegant as the one Becca Feeken posted here,
and my limited use of my stiff finger joints made it a bit
more challenging than it would be for you younger,
more limber gals!
I would also suggest using a much more detailed and sturdy Spellbinders frame die.

I did like the stunning color of the blue foil cardstock from
DCWV's
new CHA release.

And it could really use some nice, pretty soft ribbon, too.
This is a technique I will try again soon!

You Make Life Beautiful....

Here is a canvas I made using the new
"Collage Art" Stack
from DCWV!
(Available now at Michael's!)

Life Beautiful

A little Mod Podge, my Cricut, and an extra butterfly punch or two, and this little wall hanging came together so quickly!
Perfect for a friend's little girls' room!
Even the quote came pre-printed on one of the sheets!

I have very little experience decoupaging, but this was SO easy!
I love the way the DCWV paper is thick enough to work with, but once coated with the medium, simply peels and sticks! For the text pattern paper, I peeled off more of the backing
to make it a bit opaque.
I think I'm hooked!

Hope your week is going well!

Doodle Dragon {Hearts} to you!

Happy Valentine's Day
from everyone at
Dustin Pike's blog!

Today we are illustrating the MANY ways to use the
Doodle Dragon images on cards for your
Hubby, Sweetie, or little guys!

I made one for a dear little girl who loves sparkles, so the added Stickles was a must!

The image is from the January 2011 Release,
"JanMem8C"
These little skunks are so cute!

The paper is DCWV (of course) and is an old release,
"The Green Stack"
It was one made with 98% recycled paper and is my go-to on many occasions!

These images are sure to win over your little "stinker", too!
And there are literally thousands mor to choose from!

has done it again!

The precious 12 x 12 "Kidlet Stack"
that is already available at JoAnn's
is being released February 3rd in a perfectly adorable 6x6 size!

Those cute little monkeys, owls, and pretty little patterns are even cuter in the smaller print!

"I (heart) You, Little Monkey!"

Who doesn't have at least one little monkey in their lives?

These little 24 sheet stacks are only $5.99!
Think of the many projects you can whip up!

Thanks for joining me today!

Howdy, Little Partner!

I am totally loving this new "DENIM" stack from
that came out in December!

 It goes so well with my grandson!  LOL!

All the cool red and blue western patterns!
Don't you love that red bandana paper?
And they are all extra thick and glossy with foil accents on some!
The photo mat is strips of the pattern paper folded and wrapped around the picture.
(Stitching already included!)

I've been dying to use my Darice metal tags, the conchos, and the heavy metal hinges!

I actually found the belt buckle at Goodwill. The original belt was old and nasty, but I made a new one from the "Denim Stack" paper, simply cutting a strip and sewing up the sides!

Thanks for letting me share this,
and have a wonderful Super Bowl Sunday!

WHo Do? We DO VooDoo!

You're going to love these new images from Doodle Dragon!
Dustin has come up with the coolest little Voodoo Dolls.
Who doesn't love a little magic in their lives?

Add a little romance, mystery, and fun to your
Valentine's celebration with one of these cute little critters!

So get out a candle, chop the head off a chicken or two, and dance around wildly like you're on fire!
Nothing promises a more romantic Valentine's Day than a good ol' voodoo love spell!

Or you could just go the cuddly stuffed doll route...
whatever....
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My second card went a whole different direction, as many of my cards using Dustin's images often do....
I couldn't help thinking about these poor little guys
and how everyone just keeps poking them with pins!
Well, maybe it's the meds, but I started imagining what it would be like to be one of the little VooDoo dolls...yeah, definately my medication....
So I printed and stacked 3 of the little buggers (you know, like a pad of Post-It-Notes) and placed him on a "bulletin board".
Ok, this is where the imagination has to veer a bit from normal to utter ridiculousness...
Maybe it's time to come back to the land of reality...maybe...
Let's hear it for the Voodoo Dolls!
"Have a party, Mon"!
Chalkin' it up
Thank goodness for those constant challenges are put out there!
Otherwise, I would never have thought to grab some of the
DCWV "All Chalked Up" cardstock
 and enter this terrific challenge at
with Claire!
The technique challenge this week is to use the stamps on a
black background to give the look of chalk!
Well, I love my Waltzingmouse Stamps
and
I have the perfect cardstock paper for such a project!
DCWV has a line of erasable chalk cardstock that comes in dozens of colors!
This stuff is amazing!
You can write on it with your chalk, and then rub off if you choose or change your message.
Makes for perfect home decor that you can re-write messages daily!
Also perfect with this paper are the Bistro Chalk Markers. They wipe off with water, too!
The only chalk I could locate in my house today was my grandson's sidewalk chalk,
so no small detailing on this card. (Gotta wonder where I put my art chalks...hmmm....)
The stamps I used are all Waltzingmouse.
Sentiment is from "Rescue Remedies",
The frame and swirl are "Vintage Labels 4".
Thanks for hanging in here with me over the past few months.
I've been feeling very ill and things have been a bit slow and patchy,
but with a New Year comes getting well again!
~Jan~
February is drawing near....
and many of you will be needing new ideas for Valentine's cards.
Whether it is for your child's classroom, or your own love-of-your-life,
You can see so many great projects at
We are using old and new stacks here on the Design Team to
demonstrate how you can use stacks not specifically created for
Valentine's Day
to make some terrific cards and party favors!
Here's one I threw together quickly using the
"Forever and Always" stack.
It's one of my favorite papers ANY time of year!
The little basket stamp is an old release from
and has held so many different items over the years!
I do hope the weather is treating you all well.
It will be a beautiful 80 degrees here in Phoenix today,
and I hope to get out for a walk later.
Heart-filled Hugs,
~Jan~
Arctic Wishes from DCWV!
We all love LOOKING at the snow from a distance,
but my grandson LOVES being IN the snow!
(He does not get that from my side of the family.)
Winter Pop of Color!
Sometimes the colors in your photos DEMAND that you go a different color scheme than you typically would. I would NEVER have wanted to use the bright reddish/orange that this layout has, but the sled really decided it for me. Next time, perhaps, I will think to print in B & W!
The papers in the Arctic Wishes stack makes throwing together a layout so simple.
Trust me, if I can do this with a throbbing spinal headache,
think of the amazing projects YOU can make!
Doodle Dragon - Simple and Easy!
Here's a birthday card I made for a special little boy who will be turning 4 soon!  WOW!
Seems like he was just crawling around in diapers!
I used two of Dustin's images from the Christmas in July set!
They were so much fun to paper-piece!
To add a bit more pop to the card, I made it a step card!
The glittered letters are from an old chipboard set from DCWV, "Animal Crackers",
as are the pattern papers.
Enjoy the day!
Happy Birthday, Dustin!
Those of us on the Doodle Dragon Design Team love to give Dustin shXX,  cra...ummm...errr,  a hard time, and lot of crap about things in general.
But he allows us to have our fun at his expense and creates the cutest little images.
This month, Dustin has come out with a line of
(Guess he may have had some incentive from this bunch of monkeys!)
So, have a good one, Big Guy!
Stardust and Dreams....
The "Stardust" paper stack
from
DCWV
can make dreams come true!
This card will be perfect for that special someone (big or small) who has accomplished a hard-earned goal!
I simply cut the mats, added a border from the paper stack, applied four star studs, and wrapped with gold tulle. The top sentiment is fussy cut directly from the paper pack, too!
 Most of my friends' little girls love purple and pink!
Thanks, DCWV, for yet another terrific stack!
This line is available at your local JoAnn's!
Thinking outside the box....
Actually, I've been thinking outside the SEASON!
We've all been barraged with fall and Christmas holiday projects and decorations for months now,
so I decided to approach things a bit differently.
As I flipped through my terrific collection of papers stacks from
DCWV,
I immediately saw what was obviously the perfect "non-traditional" Valentine's Day blue papers with these adorable little cross-stitched hearts on them!
Whee!  What a great way to head into February.
Makes Spring feel closer already!
This stack is "Arctic Wishes"  and, sure, it has all of the winter features one would expect.
But it also has all of this wonderful stitching!
I thought it would be so great to go unexpected and make ths card for some friends of mine who are celebrating their 5th anniversary this next month!
These papers aren't ONLY for Winter.  The patterns and colors work for so many other situations.
I hope they like their card and have many more to enjoy!
Never judge a paper stack by it's given name...look past the obvious and you will often find a hidden gem.
(PS I love that little sewing machine...cute!)
Let's see how many non-holiday cards you can make out of these papers!
 Stamp used:   EK Success
TPC Studio
I'm looking at the variety of these stacks, and I'm seeing all sorts of party candy boxes and gift tags for various celebrations.
Party on!
MFT November Sketch Challenge!
This week at MFT ,  the sketch challenge #462 is  a fairly simple one!.   Here's my take on a much needed Get Well card for my ...
