Very Vintage Christmas...

I love that this new
Stampendous, "Vintage Santa"
 image looks exactly like those I recall from my childhood.

I remember the holiday cards my family recieved in the 50's were very much like this,

and when I went online to look at vintage cards, it brought back so many memories !
 

  

I colored the Jumbo Cling "Vintage Santa"

that I had printed on light kraft paper with Copics.

With the teensy, tiny gold rhinestones, there is just enough sparkle to add a glitsy, holiday feel.  I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment from the

"Christmas Wishes" set.

 

The border was punched out of kraft, and the rhinestones attached to that, also.

I like that I kept it simple and didn't over-layer or over-embellish the card.
I kept telling myself to KEEP IT SIMPLE.
I really like the result!

 

This stamp is SOLD OUT but will be back on the shelves after September 11!

This week I'm sending October Birthday "witches" !

Using a Stamps of Life set,

"Banners4All"

I paired it up with the pattern papers from

DCWV

in their new "Bewitched" matstack.

Embossing the little banners really made them POP off the paper!  And the little sentiments included make for so many options as to what direction these images can go!

A "Model" day!

I was thrilled to see that

Papertrey Ink's, "Make It Monday"Challenge

is to add a handmade clay embellishment

to your project! 
To say that this was a real challenge is understating it!

I had to dig deep and consider my PI products to come up with something I felt would be acceptable and POSTABLE!

I am very particular what I put on my blog.  I have to truly be proud of the project.

 

I think this is pretty cool...

 

I used Fima clay to make clouds by rolling the clay out very thin, and then cutting around my Papertrey Ink "Clouds" die with an X-acto blade.

Peeling off and laying them on foil, I baked them for 30 min at 225, watching the whole time to be sure they didn't burn or yellow. I had made some Lo Mein noodles years ago, and the slight brown tint worked for those...but not so much for clouds.

 

 

They didn't come out perfectly white. They had picked up some teensy pieces of glitter and dust from my scrap table, and the few little lines from rolling them out with a glue bottle! LOL!

But all in all, not bad. They still resemble clouds...and IRL you can see that they are two seperate clouds, one popped up higher and thicker than the other.

 

 

The sentiment is from PI's , "Up Up and Away".

I think this is one of my Top 3 favorite projects this month.

Oh wait, it's only the 4th of September!  LOL!

 

 

Again, I was in search of something to challenge me and this was it!

The Craft's Meow sketch challenge!

I always love an excuse to pull out my

Craft's Meow

Stamps

and the fun sketch this week was just that opportunity!

I thought about coloring the image from the

"Let it Snow"

stamp set, but decided that simply heat embossed in dark blue to match the pattern paper was all the little birdhouse needed!

 

The Craft's Meow store is having a sale right now, and oh, how I am tempted!

On my card today, I used the adorable image from

Crafter's Companion's

Christine Haworth

called

"In Trouble Again"

 

I think you'll agree that this little guy is just too cute for words.

 

The challenge at Crafter's Companion this month is

Stripes and/or Dots,

so this is how I put a vintage twist on my entry.

 

 

I loved the background on the image enough that I grabbed a piece of the tan cardstock that I used as a card base, and altered it to serve as a

background "brick mat" on my card.

If you want to see how this was done, I will be Guest Designing this month  at

Crafter's Companion (yippee!) and they, and I, will be posting another card and tutorial on this technique on September 17th!

 

 

 

 

Here you can see the shimmer on the "wall" and the way it entirely changes

the look of the plain cardstock paper.

It also gives it the feel of vinyl.  Cool, eh?

 

 

And with an image that adorable,

I needed an extra special sentiment for the inside.



DCWV Monthly Card Sketch Challenge

So I quickly grabbed my "Wild Splendor" and made this!

 

I am so in love with this collection!

The fall colors are perfect and the gold foil and gold/bronze sparkle is

just enough...

 

 

Depending on the light reflection, the leaves actually DO turn just just as they do IRL!

Truly "beautiful"!

"Sweet Blossom"

This stack is brand new and available at Michael's this month!

 

The pattern of this paper keeps drawing me back. I am going to need more poppies!

This card was SO simple!

I simply cut the black mats from the Tres Chic Stack because it has such deep texture and is true black...

Then I cut the background poppy pattern paper just 1/4 inch smaller,

and continued fussy cutting additional flowers to layer over, popping them up at various heights. The glitter centers add just a bit of elegance.

 

The sentiment is one I've used before, too, and love it!

and you can get it here.

 

The sparkle is also compliments of Stampendous, and is the

"Silver Halo" glitter.

 

The finishing touch is a silver flower charm attached with some black twine! I love adding charms and beads to my cards! Gives them that little dab of dimension.

My card this week focuses on encouragement for the student.
Here it is, using a "Can You Digi It" image,

The cloud was printed on white, the bird on yellow, and the gorgeous background is new from DCWV, "Bouquet de Fleur", available at Michael's!
I love the music sheet print on the little bird and the text on the cloud! 
It all comes on the digital image!
I popped up both the cloud and the bird.
I just noticed that one of my machine stitches slipped through on the last heart...
homemade cards...that's what makes them special.

Since I've "retired" from teaching, I lose track of how quickly it's time for everyone else to go back to school!

Gift Wrapped...

I wanted to do something besides the usual flat card,

so I made a small box card only 1/4 inch thick.

Just enough room inside to add the little machine stitched paper "socks"...

The Copics colored image I used was

"Cling Stocking Kiddo"

and the inside sentiment is

"Get Socks".

I then added the ribbon that ties partially around the card to give the appearance of a wrapped gift.  With the extra space inside, I can always add an actual pair of boy's socks for my 7 year old grandson!  Yeah, I know, that's mean!  Haha!

Special Delivery!

Hello, it's Jan again!

Today, I made a tag-turned-card!

Sometimes, you start with a concept, and it just grows from there!

I used the recently released Stampendous,

"Special Delivery"

on kraft cardstock.

First, I stamped and heat-embossed the image onto the kraft tag.

The image was then colored using watercolor pencils.

The sentiment is from the set,  "Christmas Wishes",

and was stamped and also heat-embossed.

The edges of the tag were inked with Tim Holtz Christmas inks,

and the kraft card mat and the pattern paper edges inked in Momento, Cocoa Brown.

I love the vintage look of these colors!

What set the whole thing off was covering the entire tag with Versamark,

Champagne Dazzle Ink.

I then sprinkled the entire surface with Stampendous,
Detail Clear Embossing Powder.

The result was this shimmery, gorgeous tag giving those vintage colors

an extra pop!

I send more cards than I attach tags to gifts, so this was assembled and will be one more Christmas card off my list! 

The August Stampendous Challenge,

 "Focus on Sentiments",

is very close to coming to an end!
